Dental Hygiene

Sticking to a proper dental hygiene routine can prevent most of the commonly seen dental problems. This will help you to avoid the trouble of going to your dentist way too many times unnecessarily. You will be able to save quite some money, which would otherwise have been spent on cosmetic dentistry procedures too.

As a healthy diet can play an important role in your over all health, the same is true about your dental health as well. If you do not stick to a healthy diet, you may be risking the health of your teeth and problems like gingivitis and tooth decay. Now how is your diet going to cause tooth decay? Bacteria are responsible for tooth decay and are residing in your mouth. They get their food when you eat any thing. As they love sugar and starch, excess consumption of sugary and starchy products can add to your tooth decay. This situation can worsen a lot if you do not cleanup your teeth after eating. The bacteria will start working on the food particles left in your mouth and produce acids, which in turn are going to spoil the enamel of your teeth. As enamel is the protective coating of the teeth, any damage to it can eventually lead to risk of tooth decay. This can later turn significantly worse and could even affect the born structure on which the teeth are resting. If you have the habit of having multiple servings of food at frequent intervals without proper cleaning, the resulting damage can be even worse than this.

Prevention is the best remedy for tooth decay and other dental problems. Following a healthy diet and a proper oral cleanup routine can make a lot of difference in your dental health. These are really important for prevention of dental problems and also the recurrence of dental problems after they have been taken care of once. Any time you have dental problems and need restorative procedures to be undertaken, you will be having only a smaller portion of your original teeth to work with. Thus, it is really important to stick to a healthy diet.

In order to have stronger teeth and to protect them well for a long time, you must choose appropriate times for eating and also choose the right food. A healthy and balanced diet should contain bread items, cereals, whole grain items, fruit items, green vegetables, meat items, poultry items, seafood items and dairy products like milk and cheese. As bacteria are known to be highly active for twenty minutes every time you consume sweet food items or starchy food items, reduce or avoid sweet items and snack items. Any type of soda items, be it regular or diet, fruit juices, coffee, tea, chocolate items, candy bars, citrus fruits must be reduced as much as possible. This is the only way to keep a healthy set of teeth.

If diagnosed in the initial stages, worsening of tooth decay can be prevented by proper follow up. In the initial stages, this can be achieved through fluoride treatment. In the later stages of tooth decay, the dentist may be forced to removed the damaged sections of the tooth or remove the tooth altogether. As fluoride is known to strengthen the enamel of teeth, use of fluoride in your daily brushing can do a significant difference to the risk of occurrence of any future tooth decay. Fluoride is also capable of speeding up remineralization and thus covering smaller cavities in teeth. Thus, a healthy oral clean up regimen can reduce the risk of any and all dental problems and the resulting visits to the dentist to get it fixed as well as the expensive cosmetic dental procedures resulting out of this.
