Migraine & Tensions Headache
Patients who suffer from chronic headaches are known to clench their jaw
while they are asleep. This will cause significant stress on the muscles on
their sides of face. These people are unaware of this habit, and when they get
up due to headaches, they won't remember any thing about clenching. Such added
pressure on facial muscles can cause problems like migraine headache, tension
type headache, sinus headache, tinnitus, allergy headache, premenstrual
headache, temporomandibular joint pain, pericranial tenderness etc. These people
may show signs of jaw clenching soon after they are awake. They may or may not
feel headache as soon as they wake up. Even those who do not get up with a
migraine may experience headache during daytime, due to any added stress on
these muscles. As the muscles are already stressed, even slight pressure changes
in their muscle can cause severe pain for them. The known causes for these
headaches can be any thing from daytime stress, sinus infection, monosodium
glutamate, weather changes, eyeglasses, headbands, hormonal changes, the use of
certain food items like apple, cheese, peanuts and chocolate.
As per standard way of classification, migraines are generally put in to two
categories. They are 'classic' and 'common'. Classic migraine can be caused due
to an event affecting any of their sensory functions like smell, taste, sight
etc. Common migraine has no noticeable associations with it. Seventy percent of
women are known to suffer from migraine and they can belong to either one of
these categories. Migraines can be hereditary. There are cases of migraine
reported from people of all age groups. But the usual age of patients when this
problem is noticed is when they are in their twenties.
Before you start your cosmetic dentistry makeover, you should take care of any
irritants that can cause problems for you later. These migraines usually start
of as insignificant pain and eventually grow in to unbearable pain. In most
cases, the migraine pain will be on one side of your head. In rare
circumstances, this can affect both sides too. The duration of each bout of
headache can last for a few hours and will leave the sufferer totally wasted.
Constipation, irritability, nausea, sensitivity to light, sensitivity to noise,
tenderness in scalp, enlargement of blood vessels, stiffness, aura and numbness
are also seen with these migraines.
Some of the headaches are classified as tension headaches and are a result of
the failure of the patient's neck muscles and scalp muscles in having sufficient
relaxation. These patients are known to exert 14 times more pressure on their
facial muscles during sleep than normal people. The muscles, which are
responsible for clenching their jaws, are 70% larger size than normal people.
Hence, these muscles are able to exert much more force when biting. The number
of migraine outbursts can change from person to person and time to time. As
patients get older, the frequency of migraines decreases with it. Also common
migraines are known to occur at much higher frequency than classic migraines.
Medication is the only reliable cure for migraines. There are some alternate
treatments methods available too. Some of these are finding out and avoiding
migraine-causing situations, methods to control patient's stress levels,
exercises like yoga to relax him, biofeedback methods and sleep inducing agents.
There are a lot of methods to bring your migraine under control or eliminate it
all together.
